What does Crime Stoppers do?
Tacoma/Pierce County Crime Stoppers assists law enforcement agencies in Pierce County by publicizing serious crimes and gathering tips and other information about them from the public.
In 2007 Crime Stoppers received over 900 tips from citizens. These tips helped solve over 100 different investigations, and lead to arrests in 52 cases. In all over $25,000 was paid out in rewards that year.
How does it work?
When you call (253) 591-5959 you will speak with a Tacoma Police
Officer or a Pierce County Deputy Sheriff assigned to Crime Stoppers. The
call is confidential. There isn't Caller-ID on the line, and they
won't try to find out who you are.
Instead of your name the officer will give you two numbers. One is a
control number for the case, and the other is a private ID number for you.
That's it.
Later when you call to see if there is a reward for you, the
two numbers are all you need to identify yourself and collect your
reward.
One Thousand DOLLARS?!?!
Yes. That's the reward for the Crime of the Week. If you call in
a tip that leads to an arrest in that case during the week it's featured,
you can win the full One Thousand Dollar Reward.
In addition to the Crime of the Week, rewards are
paid for any tip leading to an arrest in any felony
crime in Pierce County. The amount of a reward is decided by the Tacoma/Pierce County Crime Stoppers Board of Directors, and is based on the severity of the crime involved.
All rewards are paid out of funds collected through charitable
donations.
How do I send a tip?
If you have information about any felony crime call (253) 591-5959. The
call is anonymous, and it could win you a reward of up to a $1,000! Go ahead. Make the
call. (253) 591-5959.
