From the CPTC Cabinet...

When asked how they like their new facilities in Building 11, Radio Broadcasting students use words like “fantastic,” “technically advanced,” “high octane” and “totally professional.” Replacing classrooms and production facilities scattered around campus, the new 5,000-square-foot facility is a 51,000-watt contemporary radio station. John Mangan, Radio Broadcasting instructor and general manager of KVTI, points even though it may not be obvious, each area has been designed with instructional purposes in mind for students who gain practical experience through assignments related to the operation of I-91FM. Thanks to the efforts of John and members of the program’s Advisory Committee, a significant portion of the equipment and furnishings for the new facilities were donated. A pair of chairs in the reception area date back to the 50’s when the station operated out of facilities in the center of Building 11 before it was renovated into
Media Communications Center in 2000. Updated with new upholstery by students in the Auto Upholstery and Glass Technician program, the “retro” chairs are a reminder of the history of a station which began as KCPS at Clover Park High School. Now, KVTI is ranked among the top five non-commercial stations in the Seattle metropolitan area. Congratulations, Radio Broadcasting students and staff, on your long-awaited move!

Program Moves
To New Facilities

Tim Gregory
, left, and Raina Pangelinan, right, are among Radio Broadcasting students who are benefiting from consolidation of the program and I-91 production facilities into Building 11. While the new facilities were under construction, students assisted with the operation of KVTI, "I-91 FM," out of portables south of Building 11.

...'It's just like walking into a real radio station...'
